Manage tax clients

Add a tax client, collect what you need from them, and track the filing through to the end.

The expensive part of tax work is not the filing. It is chasing documents. The module is built around that.

Where to find itTaxes in the sidebar.

Step by step

  1. Open Taxes → Clients and add the client.
  2. Set their country profile, so the right rules and deadlines apply from the start.
  3. Connect them, so they get their own private account and can send you documents and messages directly — see Invite a customer or an employee.
  4. Open Tax returns and start the filing for the period.
  5. Work through it. What the client still owes you is visible to both of you rather than living in an e-mail thread.
  6. Complete and file it, then archive the documents with the year.
  7. Overview shows the whole book of clients: what is running, what is waiting and what is late.

The client intake form

A new client can be taken on through a form with tick boxes for what they are engaging you to do, so the scope is recorded at the start rather than assumed. The record that comes out of it becomes the client.

Your limit

Solo allows 30 tax clients, Team 100 and Agency 250. The limit counts clients, not filings — a client with three years of filings is one client.

Country profiles

Taxes → Country profiles is where the per-country rules live. Setting a client's profile once is what makes their deadlines and figures correct without you remembering which rules they fall under.
