Add a customer and a contact
The difference between a customer and a contact, how to create both, and what the customer type changes.
IDup separates the customer from the contacts. The customer is the company or household you do business with. The contacts are the people there.
Invoices, projects and contracts belong to the customer. Logins, e-mails and app invitations belong to the contacts.
Step by step
- Open Customers and select Create customer.
- At the top of Customer details, choose Individual or Company.
- For an individual, enter Salutation, First name and Last name. The customer name is built from first and last name.
- For a company, enter the Company name. Add a Contact person if you want one.
- Fill in the address, the currency and the tax details. Invoices use them.
- Add a contact with name, e-mail and phone. The contact person of a company is kept in step with its main contact.
- Tick Invite to IDup if the person should get a free own account for web and app. Nothing is sent without the tick.
- Assign a group if you segment your customers, then save.
Customers you already have
Open More → Check individual/company in the customer list. IDup suggests a type for each customer. You tick the rows and select Apply. Nothing changes without a tick, and Undo last update reverses it.
Duplicates
The same e-mail address as an existing entry is refused, and the message names that entry. The same phone number asks you to confirm first. If two customers are one company, use the customer merge tool instead of deleting one.
Next: Work with the customer list and The customer file.
Nothing is tracked — the buttons only open a message so you can tell us what was missing.
