Scan a receipt with the camera

This is the one thing a phone does better than a desk. A receipt is photographed where it is handed to you, not carried home in a pocket.

The app is explicit that you stay in charge: after reading, it says “Receipt read – please check the fields and book.” Nothing is booked without you confirming it.

Step by step

1. Open expenses in the app and find the Scan receipt card. Its hint reads: photograph the receipt — IDup reads amount, date and category for you.
2. Choose Take photo, Choose from gallery or Choose File for a PDF you already have.
3. The app shows Reading receipt… while it works.
4. Check the fields it filled in. Anything it could not read is listed after “Not recognised, please enter:” so you know exactly what to type.
5. Decide how it is booked with the Paid switch: on means booked as a paid expense, off means booked as an open supplier bill (due date).
6. Save. The photo stays attached to the booking, so the receipt and the entry never separate.

If the reading is wrong

Use Discard scan and start again with a better photo, or simply correct the fields by hand before saving — the reading is a proposal, not a decision.

• Photograph on a plain surface, with the whole receipt inside the frame.
• Avoid a shadow across the total.
• A crumpled receipt reads better flattened than straightened digitally.
