Scan a receipt with the camera
Photograph a receipt and IDup reads amount, date and category. You check it and book it.
This is the one thing a phone does better than a desk. A receipt is photographed where it is handed to you, not carried home in a pocket.
You stay in charge. After reading, the app says Receipt read – please check the fields and book. Nothing is booked without your confirmation.
Receipt scan is in every plan, including the free private Basic plan. How many scans and AI recognitions you get per month depends on the plan. See Plan limits compared.
Step by step
- Open expenses in the app and find the Scan receipt card.
- Choose Take photo, Choose from gallery or Choose File for a PDF you already have.
- The app shows Reading receipt… while it works.
- Check the fields it filled in. Anything it could not read is listed after Not recognised, please enter:.
- Decide how it is booked with the Paid switch. On means booked as a paid expense. Off means booked as an open supplier bill (due date).
- Save. The photo stays attached to the booking.
If the reading is wrong
Use Discard scan and start again with a better photo. Or correct the fields by hand before saving. The reading is a suggestion, not a decision.
- Photograph on a plain surface, with the whole receipt inside the frame.
- Avoid a shadow across the total.
- A crumpled receipt reads better flattened.
