Close the year
The year-end close freezes a period so the figures stop moving, and produces the documents for it.
A financial year that stays editable is a financial year nobody can rely on. The close is the point at which you say: this is final.
Step by step
- Before you start, check the reports for the year — profit and loss, balance sheet and VAT — and fix anything that looks wrong while it can still be changed.
- Make sure every receipt is attached and every open item is either paid or recognised.
- Open Accounting → Jahresabschluss and run the close for the year.
- Produce and file the resulting documents. They are the version your accountant and the tax office will work from.
- After the close, the period no longer accepts new bookings; anything belonging to it is handled as a correction in the following year.
Before you close, take a backup
Use Automation / workflows → Utilities → Database backup, or export the ledger and the reports. A close is meant to be final, so having the state before it costs nothing and occasionally saves a week.
Nothing is tracked — the buttons only open a message so you can tell us what was missing.
