Subscriptions and recurring billing

Recurring revenue is only an advantage if it does not cost recurring work. In IDup an invoice can repeat itself, and a subscription can bill through Stripe.

A recurring invoice

1. Create the invoice as usual. This is the template for all following invoices.
2. In the field Recurring Invoice? choose the interval, for example every month.
3. Save. IDup creates each new invoice on schedule. The service period is printed on it.
4. To stop the repetition, set Recurring Invoice? back to No. Invoices already issued are not touched.

The payment terms from your invoice settings apply to the new invoices. The subject, the introduction and the closing text of the template are copied to each new invoice. IDup creates only one invoice per period. If a run is repeated, the period is recognised and no second invoice is made.

Subscriptions through Stripe

Quotes & Invoices → Recurring Invoices lists the subscriptions of your customers with their status: Future, Active, Past Due, Canceled or Unpaid. Billing runs through Stripe. Every charge creates one invoice and one payment in IDup. This works with your own Stripe keys and with Connect with Stripe. See Connect your bank and payment accounts.

Which one to use

Use a recurring invoice for a fixed arrangement that you set up for one customer. If customers sign up and cancel by themselves, sell subscriptions as products. See The subscription shop.
