Cost centres and budget

Tag entries with a cost centre, profit centre or project, and compare the budget with the actual figures.

Last updated 21 October 2026 · More in Accounting & taxes

A cost centre answers the question where money was spent. A budget answers whether that was planned.

Where to find itFinance → Accounting → Reports with Manage cost centres and Enter budget.

Cost centres

  1. Click Manage cost centres and Add cost centre.
  2. Enter a code of up to 20 letters and digits, and a name. Choose Cost centre, Profit centre or Project as the kind.
  3. Set a default cost centre per account, or choose one on each entry line.
  4. Open the Cost centres report to see the result per cost centre.

A line that already has a cost centre in a posted entry cannot be changed. You can add one only where it is empty.

Budget

  1. Click Enter budget and choose the year.
  2. Enter a yearly amount per account. It is spread over the months.
  3. Or click Copy from prior year, optionally with a percentage change.
  4. Open Budget vs actual. Green means better than budget.

You can limit the budget to one cost centre or to the whole company.
