These tools help when several tasks depend on each other or the same steps repeat every week.

Where to find itProjects & Tasks → Tasks.

Views

The task page has a switch for List, Board, Timeline and Calendar. On the keyboard press G, then L, T, Z or K.

The timeline shows all open tasks with start and due date, a line for today and arrows for tasks that wait for another. Pick one project to see its Burndown: the open tasks per day compared with the ideal line. The project roadmap shows the duration and progress of all projects.

Dependencies

  1. Open a task. In the card Dependencies search for the task that has to be finished first.
  2. Add it. The task now shows as Waiting in the list.
  3. If you finish a task while earlier tasks are still open, IDup warns you. It does not block you.

IDup refuses a dependency that would make tasks wait for each other in a circle.

Quick add and templates

  • Type a new task in the line above My tasks and press Enter. The task is assigned to you and starts today. Press N to jump to the field.
  • In a task choose Save as template. It keeps the name, the priority, the duration and the checklist.
  • Under New task choose From template to create a task from it.

Rules

On the timeline page choose Rules. A rule reads: when the status changes to a value, optionally only in one project, then assign a person, set the priority, write a comment or notify a person. You can switch a rule off or remove it. Each rule shows how often it ran. No rule changes the status, so rules never loop.
