The VAT return
IDup builds the VAT return from your entries, checks it, locks the period and exports it for the tax portal.
The return is calculated from posted entries. For Switzerland it follows the boxes of the official form, with their wording. IDup does not submit the return for you. You export it and file it in the authority's portal.
Step by step
- Open VAT return and choose the period. The deadline is shown next to it.
- Check the boxes against your entries. Entries of the period lists them.
- If something must be adjusted, click Enter corrections. A correction is added to the calculated value. Negative values are allowed.
- Read the checks and the Reconciliation with the books. It compares the tax posted with the return.
- Click Close period. Postings in this period are then locked and the return is stored unchanged.
- Download the XML or view the PDF, and file it. Then click Mark as submitted, enter the authority's receipt number and, if you wish, store the receipt file.
A running period can only be closed after it ends. An earlier open period must be closed first.
Set the basis once
Under the return settings you choose the reporting basis, for example effective or net tax rate. For a net or flat rate you enter the activity numbers from the tax portal. You also decide whether the return uses agreed or received consideration.
Switzerland
The XML follows the eCH-0217 format. In the ESTV portal, sign in with AGOV and use MWST-Abrechnung pro to import it. The Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) offers no interface for direct submission by software.
Other countries
- Germany: transfer the figures to Mein ELSTER.
- Austria: upload the XML file in FinanzOnline.
- Liechtenstein: the figures are a preview. Enter them in the eMWST portal.
- EU companies registered for the One-Stop Shop also get an OSS return for sales to consumers in other EU countries.
